Master Audio Suite™: Encoding Formats

Next Generation Encoding
The DTS–HD Master Audio Suite™ is all you need to create audio streams for Blu–ray Disc and HD–DVD. The DTS–HD Encoder™ module includes all of the applicable DTS technologies needed to prepare Blu–Ray Disc Primary/Secondary and HD–DVD Main/Sub audio streams as well as menu audio streams.

DTS–HD Master Audio encoding produces a variable bit rate (VBR), bit–for–bit stream that may include up to 7.1 channels with sample rates of 48, 96, and 192 kHz*. DTS–HD Master Audio encoded files also contain a backward–compatible DTS Digital Surround 5.1 or 6.1 channel "core" with its bit-rate selectable between 768, 960, 1152, 1344 or 1509 kbps.

*Note: Blu–ray Discs supports up to 5.1 channels and HD DVD supports 2 channels at 192 kHz sample rates

DTS–HD High Resolution Audio encoding produces a constant bit rate (CBR) stream that may include up to 7.1 channels with sample rates of 48 or 96 kHz. DTS–HD High Resolution Audio streams can be selected to have a bitrate from 2,046 kbps to a maximum of 5,760 kbps for Blu–Ray Primary Audio or to a maximum of 3,018 kbps for HD–DVD Main Audio. DTS–HD High Resolution Audio encoded files also contain a backward–compatible DTS Digital Surround 5.1 or 6.1 channel "core" with its bitrate fixed at 1509 kbps.

DTS Express™ — for BD–Profile 1.1 or HD DVD HDi Advanced Content Disc: HD DVD Sub–Audio and BD Secondary Audio capabilities are designed to seamlessly playback and mix the Primary/Main and Secondary/Sub audio streams without interrupting playback – providing new levels of interactivity such as picture–in–picture, menu audio, pop up windows, updated director commentaries and more. Future uses also include Internet streaming and downloading to further enhance the home entertainment experience. These interactive audio assets, encoded using the DTS–HD MAS Encoder, deliver superior sound quality at the low data rates. Support for Blu–ray Secondary Audio includes mono, stereo or 5.1 DTS Express™ stream types with metadata while support for HD DVD Sub Audio includes mono or stereo of either DTS Express™ or DTS Digital Surround® stream types.

DTS Digital Surround encoding produces a version of the original DTS constant bit rate stream compatible with these next generation optical discs. DTS Digital Surround stream bitrates are selectable from mono at 192 kbps (BD only) to 6.1 channels (DTS-ES) at 1509 kbps with a sample rate of 48 kHz. Additionally, DTS Digital Surround 96/24 encodes can be created with a 5.1 channels at a fixed bitrate of 1509 kbps.

Encoding for DVD–Video, DVD–Audio, and DTS 5.1 Music Discs*:
The DTS–HD Encoder also supports the creation of DTS Digital Surround® streams compatible with DVD–V, DVD–A, and DTS 5.1 Music Discs. DTS Digital Surround audio assets for these standard definition disc formats can be encoded with up to 6.1 channels (DTS–ES®) from source files with sample rates of 44.1 or 88.2 kHz** for DTS 5.1 Music Discs and with sample rates of 48 and 96 kHz for DVD–V and DVD–A discs.

**Stereo only is supported at this sample rate
