Special Venue
DTS technology provides the most flexible and reliable sound format for the special venue arena, which includes large format and motion-based ride films, in theaters, museums, parks, restaurants, road shows, and more. To date, more than 300 special venue films have been presented in DTS on 200 screens around the world.
Now you have an opportunity to match high-resolution 70mm images with high-resolution DTS Digital Sound. DTS is capable of playing back up to 10 channels of digital sound for 16mm, 35mm, and 70mm prints in 5 perf, 8 perf, and 15 perf. In 1997, Destination Cinema signed an agreement for DTS Digital Sound to be utilized at the Niagara Falls IMAX Theater for its large screen feature, Niagara Falls, marking the first time that DTS was used with 15 perf film. DTS technology also lends itself to a variety of special applications, including multiple language discs, special effects triggers, and in-theater systems, which offer accessibility for visually- and hearing-impaired patrons.
As the most cost-effective choice for special venue, DTS also allows large format product to be reduced to other formats, thereby extending the run of a film. An example of this is the IMAX film Momentum at the CN Tower, which was reduced to 48 frame/8 perf in 35mm Vistavision.
